Bare-faced(Whispering) Ibis

Phimosus infuscatus

Sitting on the border of a small lake. Two small ibises walk in the wet area on the other side of the lake. They probe into the mud with their bills. After a while they perch on a dead tree just in front of me. Wary, but they permit fairly close approach when I try to get nearer. Curious they look at me. Their decurved bill is dull pinkish red to reddish brown and they have a bare face. The plumage is very dark almost black with a bronze gloss. These birds with their bare face really honour their name.
