Endemic species of the mountain range of Mérida of the Andes. The Mérida Sunangel is much less common and confined to forest interior. Near the cabin where I stayed it came every evening. Sometimes it had a dark plumage with a glittering pinkish purple gorget. But it depends also of the light what color it shows, I saw it all the time different. It hovers or clings to flowers when feeding and occasionally hawks insects in short sallies from a low perch. When clinging to flowers it holds it's wings up in V. I couldn't get enough of this little jewel.
