This beautiful hummer is endemic. In The Andes locally fairly common. Its throat and breast glittering green. Its belly glittering copperly gold. Male has a small violet throat patch, rather difficult to see. Hyperactive it hovers and probes upward into corolla tubes of flowers for nectar. Always seems to be on the go. It catches flying insects by helicoptering and gleans from foliages. When you have seen it ones you want to see it again and again.
This hummer is often considered a subspecies of the Golden-bellied Starfrontlet (Coeligena phalerata).
