Rufous-tailed Hummingbird

Amazilia tzacatl

This characteristic bird I have seen in gardens and other cultivated areas.

After a long walk in the "Botanic Garden" of Mérida I'm resting a moment while I'm sitting on the ground. Together with a Bananquit a small hummer feeds at mostly low flowers close to me. Both are rather territorial and they bicker constantly at rich nectar resources. Occasionally the hummer hawks tiny insects and gleans from twigs, foliage and spiderwebs or perches on a branch to rest.
