Southern Lapwing

Vanellus chilensis

Widespread common birds of open pastures. They prefer open short dry grass. I saw them often on a golfcourt. They are mostly in pairs. When nesting they are noisy, shrill of voice, defending their terrotories. Vigilant and quick to rise up and mob persistently. They feed by run-and-wait method. Mostly insects and at night.
